I’ve finally had some time to sit down and blog about how the ride is going in this thing.
It’s day 8 and our rest day in Oklahoma City is nearing to an end. So far the trip has been physically demanding, emotionally grueling, but spiritually awakening. I won’t lie, the sun takes its toll on the team whenever 11am rolls around and there have been days where I’m still pedaling after hitting the road 10 hours before. Despite the hardships I’ve been slowly coming to realize that the 21 others (22 if you include Rockie, our route mascot) that I share this journey with will be the pillar of strength and encouragement that I’ll lean on till August 12th. From Aaron’s crazy antics, Shannon’s Boston accent, Brooke’s iPod tunes to Ilya accusing Shiyam of being a gypsy, I love the unpredictable shenanigans that the Rockies team gets itself into.

So far so many people have generously given us donations and supplies to use on our daily rides. On day 2 a random passerby bought the whole team lunch at a random gas station rest stop after hearing about our cause. Many local food chainssuch as Which Wich in Stephenville, Subway near Lindsay, and many more have graciously turned each rest stop into a full blown meal. Bijal’s parents made fantastic Indian food for us at our rest day in Carrollton and past 2010 riders such as Charlie Saginaw cranked out BBQ that the team could never refuse. It amazes me each day to find so many others willing to lend a hand and if I could I would hug every single one of those people with my sweaty sunscreen covered arms.
5 days of Oklahoma, Colorado soon afterwards, and much more awaits. More to come the next time we have access to free wifi. :]
